Taste Bedford 2019 – About the chefs

Taste Bedford is back for it’s third year and we are delighted to again welcome a host of talented chefs to our Food Theatre where you will enjoy live cookery demos.

You are sure to be inspired with all the culinary delights – a feast for your eyes and tastebuds!

Compere: Anne Harnan
Taste’s Food Director

Taste’s co-founder and local food ambassador, Anne puts together the Taste Food Theatre each year. She runs a food consultancy and loves discovering the local producers and their stories, and bringing them to Taste for you to enjoy.

This year she’ll be front-of-house, hosting the stage and chatting to the chefs throughout the day, plus bringing highlights from the rest of the site as well.

11am – Liz Palmer-Smith
Dog House Kitchen, Cople

Since 2014, Lizzie and Chris have been serving diners at their Pop-Up Restaurant from their Georgian home. What started as converted garagecum-restaurant to raise money for the school PTA, has become an intimate dining space with a loyal following of happy customers!

Now it opens once a month and Liz and Chris serve up quality home-cooked food using locally sourced ingredients.

12.30pm Phil Fanning
Executive Chef and owner of Paris House, Woburn

Currently celebrating the 5th anniversary of taking ownership at Paris House, Phil Fanning returns to Taste stage for the third year running.

Phil gained a Michelin star aged just 29 and has become well known for his innovative style and creative use of Japanese cooking techniques. At Paris House, he creates British menus that focus on seasonality and superb quality ingredients.

1.30pm Jamie Evangelou
Head Chef, The Cross Keys, Great Woolstone and The Plough at Simpson, Milton Keynes

Jamie comes to us via our sponsor Charles Wells, representing the dining offered by your friendly local. He has been a chef for 9 years trialling and creating new
concepts in the industry.

2.30pm Will Bowman-Smith
Freelance Chef

Will is a rising young talent, who has previously been a finalist at Young Chef of the Year and appeared on MasterChef in Nov 2018.

He trained at The Savoy and has worked in top quality restaurants in France and Cornwall. Pastry is his passion, having been inspired by his Nan when he was just a boy.

3.30pm GCH Fishmongers and The Higgins Pantry

Award-winning fishmongers Gary and George Hooper have paired up with Chef Vince from The Higgins Pantry, to bring you a fish demo with a difference.

The Pantry is a family-run Italian restaurant serving a menu of home-cooked food with a strong Southern Italian influence. Gary is a Master Fishmonger and an ex-President of the National Federation of Fishmongers, and son George has grown up in the industry. 4.30pm Simon Harris

Simon is locally trained at Bedford College, and has worked at Brasserie Blanc and been Head Chef at Flitwick Manor, before returning to Bedford.

This is his first year at Taste and we look forward to welcoming him and his team as they showcase their summer menu. The Embankment always chose the last slot on the day, so you can follow them back to the pub and enjoy his cooking straight afterwards.
