A Free Food and Music Festival!
On July 8th 2017 BedPop is hosting a gourmet and street food festival called Taste Bedford. Set among the beautiful surroundings of Bedford’s embankment and with live music on the bandstand, the Mill Meadows event will showcase unique culinary experiences and stalls and will feature a demonstration marquee.
Taste Bedford will be like no other free outdoor event in Bedford and aims to raise the culinary profile of the town.
Headlining the Food Stage will be Phil Fanning from award winning restaurant Paris House. Phil is executive chef and owner of the fine dining restaurant based on the Woburn Estate and he is considered to be one of the brightest culinary talents and head chefs in the country.
We are delighted that Alex Mackay will be appearing in the food theatre for two demonstrations! Alex has worked as a chef at Michelin‐starred restaurants in France, Italy and the UK. Having run Raymond Blanc’s cookery school and taught alongside Delia Smith, he now cooks for Merchant Gourmet and is a patron of The Kids Cookery School. His first book, Cooking in Provence, was a winner at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. His new book, The Magic Fridge, will be available to buy before it’s officially published and Alex will be signing them at The Rogan’s Books stand!
We are thrilled to announce that gracing the famous bandstand at Taste will be none other than singer songwriter Mark Morriss, who famously made his name fronting English indie outfit The Bluetones. Mark was at the helm as the band scored 14 top ten singles and three top ten albums, before temporarily disbanding in 2011. Mark has also enjoyed a successful solo career and is a member of Matt Berry’s Music touring band The Maypoles.
This year will see a new solo album and tour, including his headline slot in Bedford. Seen live, Mark combines cracking tunes with great anecdotes; the perfect mix for a sunny Saturday afternoon on Bedford’s Embankment!
A roster of local bands will be supporting Morriss, plus blues outfit The Wang Dang Doodle will be dropping in from London.
We have some fantastic street food vendors to include Mexican, Indian, Vegan, Crepes, Paella, gourmet sausages and Braai served from a ‘steam train’! Artisan vendors will be selling bread, oils, cakes and more!
The children can also enjoy some free activities and workshops (for a small fee to cover costs).
We still need more sponsors to ensure the event is free for our community, so please get in touch.
We will also be publishing 10,000 free magazines and to advertise please contact us asap!
